The traditional finish for your guitar. Made from a high concentration of top quality shellac and industrial alcohol. It gives a high gloss, transparent amber colored finish to your instrument.
The surface should be clean and smooth.
If the grain is open, fill with grainfiller or the pumice technique.
Optionally seal the wood with Sanding Sealer or a basecoat of Shellac diluted with alcohol prior to French polishing.
Apply with a “Rubber” made by wrapping a piece of cotton wool in cotton or linen rag the size of a handkerchief or use a lint free cloth.
Pour polish into rubber, squeeze out the excess and work in a circular or figure of 8 motion till the polish is absorbed. A drop of mineral oil can be added on top of the rubber to smoothen the movements.
Apply several coats, sandpaper lightly between coats if necessary.
Finish using straight even strokes with polish thinned with methylated spirits or a drop of alcohol.
Leave 24 hours after last coat to harden.
When used for for sealing wood before waxing, apply 2 coats with a brush or rag.
