Fret slot miter box with fretboard clamps

With this miter box, cutting your fret slots becomes a fun and easy job. The box is made of sturdy aluminum and has 4 in height and width adjustable ball bearings to guide your saw. The box is big enough for fretboards up to 76,2mm width and 12,5mm height, so it will save you a lot of time with the build of most guitars and basses. Comes with a 1.5mm pin.

This version of the fret saw miter box has 2 clamps that enables you to clamp the fretboard and template.

Use in combination with our aluminum fret slot templates and never worry about calculating and marking your fret positions again! The notches of the template are 2mm and a pin is supplied for use in the miter box.

Use in combination with a saw that as a free height of at least 42mm like our Pax fret saw.

Use:

  1. Set the ball bearings to the height and width of your saw.
  2. Make sure your fretboard has an even bottom and top.
  3. It is preferred to have the side that faces you when placed in the miter box at a straight angle so that you ensure proper placement.
  4. Stick a few pieces of good quality double-sided sticky tape on the template.
  5. Place your fretboard on the template, keeping sufficient distance at the first and last notch. Keep in mind that the slot is not at the same position as the notch! When in doubt, dry-fit the template in the miter box at the first and last notch and mark the saw positions.
  6. Place the miter box at a good working height on a stable surface.
  7. Position the template into the miter box so that the pin falls into the first notch. Make sure the side of the template sets straight against the side of the miter box and clamp both ends of the template.
  8. Push the saw through the ball bearings while making sure that the teeth don’t tough the bearings.
  9. Start sawing and make sure you keep the saw horizontal. As the first notch is for your nut, you can saw all the way through – or in case you are placing a zero nut, than check your cutting depth regularly, till you reach the required depth.
  10. Remove the saw by pulling it back, release the clamps and slightly lift the template up from the pin and forward so the pin falls into the next notch.
  11. Place the template again straight against the sides, clamp in place and saw your next slot. Continue till all slots are completed. Always double check if the pin is in place, the template is straight against the side and your saw is moving in the right direction
