With this saddle slot router jig you save yourself a lot of time, sweat and tears. This jig makes the positioning easier and enables you to route the saddle slot in your guitar bridge with precision every time.
Ideal to route new slots, but also to adjust, correct or deepen existing slots.
Thanks to its design, the jig is easy to use and also adjustable for compensated saddles or a diagonal saddle for, for example, fanned frets.
Made of sturdy transparent plexiglass in various thicknesses to allow placement over your bridge with optimum view on your work.
The router guide has two deepened screw holes with a heart distance of 7cm that fits perfectly on our Precision router base for Dremel like precision routers. With the two adjustable stoppers, you can determine in advance the start and end point for routing your saddle slot. The zero point piece helps to reposition the router template after your first slot is cut by placing thickness gauges between the template and zero point piece.
This jig comes without the precision router, precision router base and thickness gauges.
Use:
1) Determine the position of your saddle slot and mark this on your bridge.
2) Mount the router guide on your precision router base, or your own base plate (optionally by drilling new holes)
3) Place the jig on your guitar with the opening over the bridge and clamp in place, for example with a small clamp at the sound hole and two large clamps at the back. Make sure to protect your wood when clamping!
4) Loosen the router template, stoppers and the zero point piece so that they can move freely.
5) Place the router bit in your precision router and set the height so that is set just above the top of your bridge.
6) Set the template by moving the router on various points over the bridge with the router bit positioned on your marked saddle slot. You can use the template at a straight angle, but also diagonally for a fanned fret setup. Once positioned, secure the nuts of the template and check again.
7) Place the zero point piece straight against the template and secure with the nuts.
8) Determine the start point of your slot, shift the stopper against the router base and secure. Do the same for the end point.
9) Set the height of your router bit. It is better to work in steps and not to remove too much material in one go. This is better for your router bit, prevents breakouts and give a cleaner end result.
10) If you want to widen your saddle slot, loosen the template. Let the zero point piece sit tight! You can determine the exact distance by placing feeler gauges between the zero point piece and the template. Set the template straight against the feeler gauges and secure with the nuts. Check if everything is positioned and route again in steps.
We recommend to route the width of the slot in multiple steps with a smaller router bit. Use for example with a 3mm width slot, a 2 to 2.5mm router bit. This gives you more control over the router and a better end-result for a perfectly cut saddle slot! meer controle hebt over het eindresultaat en het brugdeel strak past.
