Pax Fret slot saw

This is the ideal saw to use with our fret slot miter box. This saw has a blade of 244mm length and 16tpi (average of 6.3 teeth per cm) and a cutting width of 0,55mm which is perfect for fret wire with 5mm studded tang, like most of our Sintoms fret wire. Extra handy are the openings in the top of the blade that allows for placement of a distance keeper. Comes with a beautiful and convenient 120mm long walnut handle that allows you to keep going and have those fret slots in your fretboard done fast and easy so you can continue with the rest of your guitar!

How to use in combination with the fret slot miter box

Make sure your fretboard has an even bottom and top.
It is preferred to have the side that faces you when placed in the miter box at a straight angle so that you ensure proper placement.
Stick a few pieces of good quality double-sided sticky tape on the template.
Place your fretboard on the template, keeping sufficient distance at the first and last notch. Keep in mind that the slot is not at the same position as the notch! When in doubt, dry-fit the template in the miter box at the first and last notch and mark the saw positions.
Place the miter box at a good working height on a stable surface. Have two clamps at hand.
Position the template into the miter box so that the pin falls into the first notch. Make sure the side of the template sets straight against the side of the miter box and clam both ends of the template.
Push the saw through the ball bearings while making sure that the teeth don’t tough the bearings.
Start sawing and make sure you keep the saw horizontal. As the first notch is for your nut, you can saw all the way through – or in case you are placing a zero nut, than check your cutting depth regularly, till you reach the required depth.
Remove the saw by pulling it back, release the clamps and shift the template from the pin and forward so the pin falls into the next notch.
Place the template again straight against the sides, clamp in place and saw your next slot. Continue till all slots are completed. Always double check if the pin is in place, the template is straight against the side and your saw is moving in the right direction
