Kovax self adhesive sanding paper 100 grit

Kovax self adhesive sanding paper on a roll! Available in 100, 150, 240 and 400 grit.

Shaping
The 100 and 150 grit is mainly intended for the shaping phase of your project and ideal for applying your radius in combination with a radius block. They do not seem to take away material very quickly at first, but do not be mistaken. The granules on these Kovax strips and the method of distribution and fixing are applied with such precision that they remove material very balanced without making deep scratches. That is great, because that saves you time in the next sanding round.

Prep
The 240 and 400 grit is to prepare for your finish and is ideal for use with your radius block or fret level sanding beam.
For a lacquer finish, sanding up to 400 grit is sufficient. Check that all minor scratches and irregularities are removed by moistening the surface, eg with turpentine, and inspect your project in good light.
For a finish with oil, you can go up to 600 grit and then apply your first oil layer, possibly with waterproof sandpaper to make a smudge and fill the pores.

General about sanding:
Sanding flat surfaces
For sanding flat surfaces, especially for wood with different hardness’s such as swamp ash, flamed & quilted maple or spalted wood, we recommend a hard surface under the sandpaper. This gives the least chance of uneven removal of material or finger pressure. A cork block is ideal, a block of wood is also possible, but be careful for hard corners and sharp edges.

Sanding round surfaces
For sanding round parts such as the inside of horns, you can take a piece of PVC tube and stick your sandpaper around it or use our Toleblock round. Make sure you do not have overlapping parts. You can simply glue the strips with glue spray or thin double-sided tape.

Tip
Do not move too quickly to the next sanding round. Take a moment to see if you are really ready with this grit. Rather spend some extra time on a good basis than endless sanding afterwards! Always finish your last sanding round in the direction of the grain.
