side dot template
A handy and compact template to position your side dots consistently on your guitar. This template is suited for 1, 2 en 3mm side dots, equipped with centre and position lines and made of 5mm thick plexiglass.
This template comes without the wooden block and screws, you probably have some wood lying around that can fit this porpose perfectly!
1 - Take a piece of wood with two straight sides in a 90 degrees angle. Maybe you have some leftover wood lying around in need of a purpose.
2 - Drill 3 holes in a straight parallel line to the bottom of the block and at the position of the oval slots in the template. These holes need to be positioned around 3cm from the bottom in order to give the template sufficient room to be positioned correctly.
3 - Take 3 screws and position the template on the block. Don't overpressure the template with the screws, it just needs to hold its place.
4 - Place the block on your fretboard with the template hanging over the side where you want to place your side dots. Position to the correct height and double check on different positions on your fretboard.
5 - If you want to center your side dots between the frets, than mark a centreline and use the dot template with the centreline.
6- Mark the position of your side dots with an eyeleteer.
7- Drill the holes (around 1.5mm deep) and set your side dots in place with a small drop of super glue or Titebond, depending on the material.
