These colors have been developed by Nitorlack based on the original Fender and Gibson colors as used on these instruments in the 50s and 60s. Naturally due to the aging process, instruments from that era will look different by now, but with this colored nitrocellulose guitar lacquer, you will have a great start for a beautiful finish!
This transparent color is first introduced by Gibson in 1954 with their junior model.
For an average guitar body, one can will be sufficient, for a larger guitar or a bass, you will probably need two.
Use:
Shake well before use.
Sand the object until grain 400, the last sanding should be in the direction of the grain until all scratches have been removed.
Remove dust and greasy residue and apply 2-3 layers of white primer and lightly sand with 800grit between the layers.
Than apply a darker type grainfiller such as the mahogany or rosewood. Mix the grainfiller with water to create a workable paste and apply evenly with a cloth or brush. After 2 - 3 minutes, rub away access grainfiller. Repeat if necessary to create a smooth surface.
After that, spray the color layers. This transparant color builds up in intensity. Usually the characteristic TV Yellow shade is achieved after 4 layers, depending on the thickness of your coats.
Finally apply the transparent top coats in gloss or if preferred matt or relaic golden age.
Apply in total between 9-12 full layers to account for sanding and polishing. Spray maximum 3 layers per day with 60 minutes in between and allow 24 hours to dry before applying the next 3 layers. Sand lightly between coats for the best bond.
After the last 3 layers, let cure for 2 weeks minimum.
Clean the nozzle after use by inverting the can and spray for 3-5 seconds.
Make sure to use a fine dust mask and spray in a well-ventilated area. Recommended temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius.
