This template with multiple parts will come in real handy when you want to place a tremelo system in your guitar and is of great help with routing the cavity sections.
The template is suited for trem systems with a stud distance of 73.91mm (apr. 2-15/16”) like those of the brands:
- Floyd Rose
- Gotoh
- Schaller
- Graph Tech
The widest part of the template is 95.25mm.
Made from 5mm thick, sturdy transparent plexiglass for optimum view on your work and has several centerlines and markings to position the template for the front and the back side of your guitar. Comes with instructions for the different cavities, however, always follow the instructions that come with your bridge.
Use:
Make sure your workpiece is placed steady, flat, at a good height with a comfortable working position and good view on your work area. With routing, always wear protective clothing such as eye and ear protection and a dust mask. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove waste material and prevent that from heaping up. Never try to route too much material at once to prevent your router from breaking away unnecessary ware on your router bit. Guide is maximum half of your router bits height and half of its diameter. To create sufficient depth while keeping the guidance bearing of your template bit against the template, work with different lengths of bits, changing them when more depth is required. Be focused.
Determine the centerline from the neck all over the body of your guitar and the position of the bridge. Mark these.
Use the dotted line of part B to determine the scale. The dotted line is situated in the middle of the bridge saddles which ensures you have enough space to tweak the intonation.
Position part A of the first template at the required position with the help of the center lines and secure the template with good double-sided sticky tape. If you secure the template with clamps, protect the wood of the body and make sure that your router can move freely. Route to a depth of 6.73mm.
Note that the template for part A overflows to the cavity of part B which prevents having to remove the corner edges. Part B is routed deeper than part A. After routing part A, you can mark the lines for part B as additional guide for placing part B.
Place part B at the required position with the help of the engraved part and the centerlines. Secure the template with fresh double sided sticky tape or clamps. Route to a depth of 11.18mm
Mark the centers of the studs in part A with the help of the template before you remove it and mark the lines on the sides for additional guide for placing part C.
Place part C with the help of the top and center lines. Secure the template in place making sure to use fresh tape. Route part C complete through the body.
Turn your worktop up side down and take part 2 of the template.
Place part 2 of the template with the dotted lines of the widest part positioned at the body through cavity of part C. Make sure that the template is used with the text readable. All engravings are at the body side of the template. Route to a depth of 16.13mm for a body of 44.5mm thick, or so much deeper as your body is thicker.
