This routing template consists of 2 parts: 1 to cut your cavity and to recess your control plate and 1 to cut your own control plate, complete with the markings for your pot meters and switches for your guitar. The templates are made of clear, high-quality 5mm thick plexiglass and equipped with centerlines. That's great, because this allows you to see exactly where and how to position the template!
The cavities are based on standard sizes with a control plate length of 160.6mm and a width of 34.5mm.
Use a template router bit . If you want to recess the control plate, than use a shallow template router bit for that cavity.
Set your centerlines and position the template for the cavity. This is the smallest one. Set your template in place with good quality double sided sticky tape. Don't overdo the tape as you still need to be able to get it loose. Set your router and route the first cavity to the required depth. Remove the template.
If you want to recess your control plate, than pisition the larger cavity template with the help of the centerlines. Set in place and use a shallow template router bit to cut this to the required depth.
If you want to make your own control plate, than first roughly cut the shape.Place the tamplate bit and secure it with double-sided sticky tape. You may need to move your project to give space for your router (and not cut into your bench), so make sure it is secure. Start with routing the outer sidesand work from outsides to the insides to avoid tear outs.
